Table ronde sur les entreprises transnationales et les droits humains

A l’occasion de la Journée mondiale de l’alimentation, l’Association de soutien à Action de Carême en partenariat avec AgriFood organisent une table ronde intitulée:  

« When mining and agribusiness cause hunger: can the UN protect rural communities against globalised companies ?» 

Cinq intervenant·e·s participeront au débat en amenant différents points de vue: celui de communautés africaines affectées par les activités des entreprises transnationales dans la réalisation de leur droit à l’alimentation, celui d’un État comme l’Afrique du Sud qui a initié et co-parrainé le Traité contraignant des Nations Unies sur les entreprises et droits humains, ainsi que l’avis d’expert·e·s travaillant sur la Déclaration des Nations Unies sur les droits des paysan·e·s. Les participant·e·s seront invité·e·s prendre part à l’échange.

In many parts of the Global South, extractive industries and industrial agribusiness are threatening the right to food. Communities face land grabs, environmental destruction, and loss of livelihoods. As the UN moves towards a binding Treaty on business and human rights, this round table will bring together voices from Africa, civil society, diplomacy, and academia to ask:

● Could the UN Treaty on Business and Human Rights help hold transnational corporations accountable?
● How does the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants (UNDROP) strengthen this effort?
